Dr Heva Chan was born in Hong Kong and gave her first performance on piano at the age of four. During her studies in Austria, Heva had the chance to travel to 37 countries for research and performance; and was awarded numerous scholarships and prizes, as well as being awarded both Austrian and Australian citizenships for her Distinguished Talent in the fields of Arts Education and Music. She has developed different approaches and techniques for research and teaching. Her music and academic work have been presented, performed and recorded in numerous concerts, international seminars, symposiums, conferences and music festivals in Asia, Europe, America, Canada and Australia. As a composer, performer, musicologist and music educator, her passion is to share Christ’s love and her knowledge and experience with others.

As the Head of School of Music (2003 – 2015) at Wesley Institute/Excelsia College (Christian University College), Sydney, Australia, she demonstrated exceptional management and administrative skills. For over twelve years, she led the development of the curriculum, and excelled in recruiting and leading staff, budget drafting and management, networking, marketing and planning for events, and supervision of all aspects; of programming, delivering and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. For Wesley/Excelsia, she was a celebrated teacher of composition, music analysis, performance, music history, music theory, aural, world music, music business, contemporary music notation, avant-garde music and ethnomusicology; and she ensured the provision of quality and value-added education within a caring environment.

With her outgoing, trustworthy, friendly, sincere, highly motivated and diligent character as well as counselling skills and language skills across Cantonese, Mandarin, English and German, she knows how to create a positive, inspiring educational environment, and how to communicate effectively with management, staff and students from different cultures, encouraging them to use their gifts and talents for serving the world.
